A local's guide to Rabac - beyond the beach

Most people come to Rabac for the beaches, but honestly, the best part of this area starts once you move beyond the main coastline and tourist spots.
Around Rabac and Kvarner Bay, there’s a completely different side of Istria hidden between the islands, cliffs, and smaller coastal villages. Quiet coves, crystal-clear bays, hidden beaches, local fishing spots, and places accessible only by boat make the whole area feel much more authentic once you leave the crowded promenade behind.
One of the best ways to experience that side of Rabac is from the sea itself. The coastline looks completely different once you head toward Cres Island, especially around hidden bays and rocky beaches scattered along the coast.
That’s also the idea behind the Levante Explore Day Tour. Instead of spending the whole day on crowded beaches, the tour focuses on discovering quieter snorkeling spots, hidden coves, coastal viewpoints, and smaller locations most visitors never reach from land.
Places like Valun, a small fishing village on Cres Island, offer a much calmer atmosphere compared to larger tourist destinations. Then there’s Lubenice and the famous Blue Cave (Plava špilja), known for crystal-clear water and some of the most beautiful swimming spots in Kvarner Bay.
And if you want a break from the sea, nearby Labin Old Town offers narrow stone streets, local restaurants, viewpoints, and a completely different atmosphere just a few minutes above Rabac.
Most visitors only really see the beaches.
Locals know there’s a lot more hidden around the coastline.
